Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin (J CAUDILL SHELF LIN)

Young Minli lives with her Ma and Ba in the Valley of Fruitless Mountain. Everything in the village was dull and brown. The only thing that kept Minli from becoming dull and brown were the stories her father told her every night at dinner. She goes in search of the Never-Ending Mountain to ask the Old Man of the Moon how to change her fortune. After the first day of her journey she rescues a dragon. They become friends and set out to find the Never Ending Mountain together. They both face many dangers and meet many magical friends who help and guide them through the journey.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is beautifully written and has an Arabian Nights feel to it. One story leads to another and every story is important as they are linked together. This book is a 2010 Newbery Honor winner. Grace Lin uses her beautiful sketches and illustrations throughout, adding to the elegance and appeal of the book.

Note: This book is also nominated for the 2012 Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Award.
